Mark Richards: Video interview on his early influences

Mar 3rd, 2010 | By Solo Surfer | Category: Featured

This is a very rough edit.  I’ll post a better one later.   This interview was done on short notice right after the closing of Clark foam.  Mark has some interesting insight.  Mark is obviously very professional in his approach and one of the best ambassadors the sport of surfing has ever had.   The part in the middle where I seem to lose my train of thought is because I was being asked in the middle of the interview…what I was doing there.  That was funny.  We had permission, but the booth security didn’t know it.  I was a bit stressed because the interview sheet was lost and the external microphone was not functioning.   Over all I believe there is some valuable information in the interview.  Not many surfers know Mark Richards was also a former Geoff McCoy team rider and that Geoff was one of his early influences.

Enjoy

  1. Hey Noel, good interview, bummer the audio is a bit lacking, too much back ground noise. MR is truely one of the greatest surfers of our time, plus a pioneer in board designs.

  2. Thank you B.T. I plan on putting up a better edited version run through a noise correction program, but I really wanted to get this out first.

  3. One of my favorite video clips of MR is of him riding what I think is a McCoy twin in the MR Tapes video. I’m just guessing, but it appears he’s surfing Angourie in the very early 70s. I liked how loose and free his surfing was in that clip. He always had a unique style that to this day has never been duplicated…long live the Wounded Gull.
