An old and almost forgotten interview with Mark Foo
Mar 18th, 2010 | By Solo Surfer | Category: SpotlightThis interview was conducted by Gerry Blanck who has been a Karate trainer in the L.A. area for years. Gerry and original Pensacola local surf shop owner and surfing celebrity had a major influence on Mark Foo’s life. I think Gerry, being the humble person he is has always been a bit surprised that his friendship has this sort of impact. Something for all of us to keep in mind. We alone can be either a positive or negative influence on someone’s life and never really be made aware of it until years later. I stayed with Mark at his home above Waimea Bay Oahu Hawaii which Gerry set up for me and it was obvious the huge respect Foo held for him. Joe Buck also helped me have one of the best surf trips of my life and like Mark…I am grateful for his kind generosity. This interview was conducted by Gerry Blanck sometime between 1988 and 1989. It’s well known among surfers that Mark Foo passed away in a surfing accident in 1994. He is still missed by those of us who were new friends or old.
