Roger has been shaping for me for fifteen years or so... Now he is blowing the doors off of the standup world with his 7'9" by 26 by 3.5 single concave quad beast. It is a low 80's volume board and surfs like you would not believe. At 6'1" 185, it is not easy to paddle... but it is a revelation on the wave. Been crappy surf since I got it... dying for swell.

Aloha Dr. Hinds!

A FRIEND TALKED ME INTO ORDERING A NEW BOARD A FEW MONTHS AGO. ACTUALLY HAD TO FRONT THE MONEY FOR ME. TOLD ME ROGER WOULD BE ABLE TO HELP ME WITH THE RIGHT SHAPE. I LEARNED TO SURF AT SALT CREEK WHEN WE COULD CAMP ON THE BEACH IN ‘62’ AND HAVE BEEN AN “ON-AGAIN OFF-AGAIN” SURFER THE PAST 50 YEARS. I DON’T HAVE THE “POP” AND SPEED THAT I USED TO HAVE BUT I STILL HAVE THE “STOKE”. THE BOARDS I HAVE NOW JUST HAVEN’T WORKED FOR ME AND THIS ONE THAT ROGER BUILT; IT’S LIKE HE READ MY SOUL. IT’S SOMETHING THAT WORDS LIKE “GREAT BOARD” “BITCHEN” “RAD” OR “OFF THE CHART” WON’T WORK. IT’S HARD TO EXPLAIN. IT ISN’T A SHOW BOARD; IT’S CLEAR, UNPOLISHED SAND FINISH, UNOBTRUSIVE, AND SIMPLE; BUT IT’S A ROCKET DOWN THE LINE AND I CAN GET TO THE LINE-UP WITHOUT GETTING WHATS LEFT OF MY HAIR WET. I’LL BE LEAVING FOR MEXICO PRETTY SOON TO LIVE ON A BOAT I’VE RESTORED AND JUST FELT I NEEDED TO SAY SOMETHING. THANK YOU ROGER, YOU NAILED IT FOR ME AND YOU SAW SOMETHING THAT WAS MORE THAN JUST SHAPING A BOARD FOR ANOTHER DUDE.

I bought a used board from a shaper named Kimo Greene He works out of sand island. Its a country surfboard koa surf classic. yellow with red rails . Haleiwa Hawaii. Looks like there's a koa piece of pin striping in the center of it from top to bottom. Do you know who shaped it . I want to know if its worth anything more than the purchase price of 400. Its 9'2" and still in good shape . No dings.

I had a 7'9'' (now de-laminated and beat up) when i was a beginner. experimented with different sized and shaped boards and have come full circle in all around board selection. I recently received a custom 7'9'' with only slight alterations made (thicker than normal stringer/some kind of stronger foam). Im very satisfied with the shape/ glass job and will try and take better of this one; but mainly ride it a bunch. I wouldn't think twice about ordering another if I needed one. Aloha and Thanks Roger Hinds! Your a master and a step above professional.

Roger built two boards for me. The first I rode to death. The second is almost too pretty, so when the waves get good on the lost coast, the Country comes out. Roger is a true craftsman who cares about his product.

I have had the pleasure to be in the room while Roger was shaping a custom board for me. He is truly a master craftsman. It was amazing watching a blank turn into the board that Roger and I had discussed at length about prior to going into the room. His personal touches, attention to detail, surfing and board making knowledge produced the exact board that I wanted. I was not fortunate to watch him glass my board but the glass job is flawless. I highly recommend to anyone buying a new board to get a custom shaped one and if your lucky enough to have a true professional like Roger to do it, it is icing on the cake. Thanks to Noel for hooking it all up!

Another great interweaving of history along with the construction talk. These stories tell of the true heritage of our sport. It's about surfboards along with the people who build and ride them, not which brand of trunks you sport.

Thanks again.
